FYI, BETTY isn’t queer… It’s Queerbait. She’s singing from the point of view of a 17yo boy named James. The way it’s sung sounds like a girl in love with a girl, but the context is that is a guy who cheated or dumped a girl for another girl. It’s not queer.
If you view it that way you can 100% view it that way. There’s absolutely nothing wrong with it. It’s a nice song.
But Taylor 100% made this song not queer by including a masculine/male associated name with it. If she had NOT done that, it’s easier to say it is a queer anthem. But she intentionally added that name to the song, and she intentionally said it only once.
It’s 100% Queerbait.
Long time no post. Here’s a work rant safe from my bosses eyes.
I started my job just over a year ago. When i started i was hired at the same time as someone else for the same role. They were a fresh from college 21 year old graduate while i was a graduate student in the field with 8+ years of experience. It was fine, really. At first.
It was their first professional job and they were raw. They needed strong management and coaching, which they didn’t get. It was frustrating to work with them. I remember one day i was speaking with my director about something, and they brought up the fact that this coworker of mine regularly spoke over and interrupted me.
I felt so validated. Finally they were noticing the problematic behavior! It was not just in my head, i was not just being paranoid or self centered! It made me feel great.
But now, looking back, i realized one terrible aspect of the whole situation. My director identified a problematic behavior in my coworker that was negatively affecting my ability to be effective in my work and did nothing. Never once did they ever stop her from interrupting, or provide me an opportunity to finish what i was saying. In retrospect, it was a form of psychological torture.
My director is not a good leader. They viewed this as my problem and therefore did not think they needed to get involved. It was my responsibility to correct my coworker’s behavior and not theirs.
They take no responsibility for anything. I don’t have any work to do, it is my responsibility to ask them for work. If they do not follow through with something, it is my responsibility to follow up with them. It’s chaos.
